I am a widower drawing ss on my wife. can I also draw my own ss? I am 62
Hi,
You couldn't receive both benefits in full. If and when you file on your own record, you'll only receive the higher of a) your own retirement rate or b) your widower's rate. And, if your own benefit rate would be higher than your widower's rate, your best strategy would likely be to allow your own rate to grow until age 70 before switching to your own record. You may want to consider using the maximization software available on this website to compare your filing options.
Best, Jerry
