Can I Collect Spouse's Benefits?

My husband filed and suspended in January 2016 when he turned 66. I will turn 66 in December of this year. I was told that while I can file and suspend, I cannot apply for spousal benefits as my full ss pmt at age 66 would be more than half of my husband's amount - (the difference is about $21). I thought that this was not applicable for my age.

Ronnie,
You definitely DO NOT want to file for, and suspend receipt of, your retirement benefit. If you do, then you will only be eligible for your excess spouse's benefit, which is $0.
You should file a restricted application for spouse's benefits only at your full retirement age (FRA) in Dec 2016. Do not file before your FRA or you'll be deemed by law to have filed for both your retirement and spouse's benefit at that time.
Best,
Mike
