I will be turning 65 in February and want to know if I can draw Social Security on my husband? He is still living....I have been disabled all my life due to 3 automobile accidents. I’ve never felt sorry for myself. Thank You
Hi. Assuming that you're still married to your husband, you could only qualify for spousal benefits if your husband is drawing Social Security retirement or disability benefits and if his primary insurance amount (PIA) is more than twice as much as your own PIA. A person's PIA is equal to their Social Security retirement benefit rate if they start drawing their benefits at full retirement age (FRA).
I don't have enough information to be able to give you any personalized advice, so I would suggest calling Social Security to explore your filing options.
Best, Jerry
