Can I Get Medicare At Age 58 If I'm Caring For My Child Who Receives Social Security And Medicare?

My adult disabled son receives ss and Medicare. Since our son lives with us and I take care of him am I eligible for Medicare even though I am 58??

Hi. No, unless you are either receiving some type of disability benefit from Social Security, or if you've been diagnosed with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Otherwise, you must be at least age 65 to be eligible for Medicare.

You don't mention whether or not you receive Social Security benefits, but if your son is receiving disabled adult child's (DAC) benefits based on your spouse's earnings record then you may be able to qualify for child in care spousal benefits.

To potentially qualify for child in care spousal benefits, you must be married to the parent on whose account your son qualifies for DAC benefits, and you'd need to meet the definition of having a child in care. If your son is mentally impaired and living with you, then he would be considered in your care. However, if his disability is physical rather than mental, you would need to be providing personal services for your son. The following reference from Social Security's handbook explains what is meant by 'personal services': https://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home/handbook/handbook.03/handbook-0314.html.
