I have been on disability for at lease 15 years but am wondering if I could get my deceased husbands benefits even though I think I made more than he did when working.
Hi. Only Social Security would have access to the records needed to answer your question. You don't mention your age, but you'd need to be at least age 50 to potentially be able to qualify for disabled widow's benefits. Plus, even if you meet the age and disability requirements, the only way that you could be paid survivor benefits in addition to your own Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits is if your widow's rate is higher than your SSDI rate.
If you do qualify for a higher survivor rate, then it would almost certainly be advantageous for you to claim those benefits as soon as possible. If you are within 4 months of age 50 or older, I would suggest contacting Social Security to see if you could qualify for survivor benefits.
Best, Jerry
