I am a retired veteran and 100% disabled ' am i authorized addditional benefits from Social Security?
Hi. If you're under full retirement age (FRA) you may be able to qualify for Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits. Both SSDI benefits and Social Security retirement benefits are based on an average of your highest years of Social Security covered earnings, though, so the only difference that being a veteran might make are deemed military wages (DMW). DMW's are extra wage credits that are added to the actual military wages paid to veterans for certain years in which they were on active duty (https://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home/handbook/handbook.09/handbook-0953.html), and those extra credits can potentially increase a veteran's Social Security retirement or disability benefit rate.
