Do I Have Any Options?

Im 62 , Previous wife died at 49 fully retired from state with death and disability , we were married 22 years. New wife now married 10 years but SS said can not collect previous wifes ss because I wed before 60. Any options?

Hi,

It's true that you couldn't qualify for benefits on a previous spouse's record if you are currently married and your remarriage occurred before age 60. You still likely have options with regard to when to start your own benefits. And, your current wife may qualify for spousal benefits on your record, or vice-versa, either now or in the future.

The best filing strategy for you and your wife depends on numerous factors, so you may want to consider running the maximization software available on this website in order to explore all of your options.

Best, Jerry
