I've been receiving SSI for about 10 years. December 6th I turn 62. Is there anything I need to do?

Hi Jeff,

Not necessarily. Most likely, the only reason you'd need to do something when you turn age 62 is if you're insured for Social Security retirement benefits. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients are required to file for Social Security benefits as soon as they are first eligible, and potential eligibility for Social Security retirement benefits can begin as early as the first month that a person is age 62 for an entire month. That would apparently be January in your case, so if you have at 40 quarters (QC) of Social Security covered work then you should probably contact Social Security to apply for benefits.
