My ex-husband died five months ago and since we were married for 14 years I have been collecting on his Social Security retirement. It was incorrectly calculated because they thought I had not paid into Social Security because I worked for the State of California. The offset amount is $300 and although I have been told that this will be corrected, it has been sitting in the "payment center" for over three months. I was told it shouldn't take over 60 days for the correction to be made. How long can I expect this simple correction to take?
Hi,
Social Security payment center backlogs vary substantially, so I really can't give you a reliable time frame. Backlogs of 120 days or more are not at all uncommon, though.
Best, Jerry
