I am 67 and my wife is 54. We have been married for 10 years . I started collecting SS last year. If I would pass how much of my SS could my wife still collect. Thank you
Hi,
Your wife could be eligible for a widow's benefit of up to 100% of your benefit rate, but only if she starts drawing widow's benefits at her full retirement age (FRA) or later. Your wife could potentially qualify for reduced widow's benefits as early as age 60, or as early as age 50 if she's disabled, but in that event her benefit rate would be reduced by 28.5%. The only way that your wife could collect survivor benefits on your record prior to age 60 is if she's disabled or if she has a child in her care who qualifies for benefits on your account and who is under age 16 or disabled.
Best, Jerry
