Larry,
I am 67 years old and filed early for SS benefits at age 64. My wife is 66 years old and wants to file a restricted spousal application and delay filing based on her own earnings until age 70. My question is will her spousal benefit equal 50 percent of my current check or what I received when I was 66 last year or what I received when I filed early at age 64? Thank you.
Hi,
Your wife's spousal rate will be based on 50% of your primary insurance amount (PIA). Your PIA is the amount that you'd be receiving if you had started drawing your benefits when you reached full retirement age at age 66.
Best, Jerry
