I have recently discovered that I have been paying my premiums for United Health Care and Humana both through deductions from my Social Security Check and my bank account. Neither UHC nor Humana have any record of my payment through Social Security, however I do have documentation that both have been deducted for the past 5 years. Can you please advise how to proceed?
Thank you,
Hi. I'm not sure that I understand your situation exactly. I assume you signed up for Part D of Medicare with the 2 companies you mention. Part D coverage is handled through private companies, although when you enroll in Part D you can choose to authorize the Part D insurance company you've chosen to withhold your premiums from your Social Security payments.
When you choose to have Part D coverage withheld from your Social Security benefits, that's all arranged through the insurance companies. Only the insurance companies can stop the withholding. Social Security can confirm that Part D premiums are being withheld from your benefits, but I don't think if they can do anything to help you with your problem. It sounds like you may need confront your Part D insurance companies with the documentation you have.
You generally aren't allowed to have Part D coverage with more than one insurance company. If you're enrolled in Part D of Medicare with more than one company, then I would suggest calling Medicare (1-800 MEDICARE) for advice.
Best, Jerry
