I’m 52 years old. My husband is already collecting SSI at 60 years due to a disability. If he were to pass away I’m I entitled to file for his social security benefits.
Hi. I assume that you mean that your husband is collecting Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits, not Supplemental Security Income (SSI). SSI is a needs based payment, and does not provide for any survivor payments.
You couldn't continue to receive your husband's actual Social Security benefits if he dies, but you might be able to qualify for survivor benefits. In order for you to potentially qualify for Social Security survivor benefits in the event of your husband's death, you would need to be either a) at least age 60, or b) at least age 50 and disabled, or c) have a child in your care who qualifies for benefits on your husband's record and who is either under age 16 or is disabled.
