Is It Possible That I Could Still Qualify For Survivor Benefits From My Father's Record?

I read , that even though I I am over the age of 18. It has already drawn. To that page as my deceased fathers survivor benefits. Now that I am disabled through blindness and do not have enough work credits. I could possibly still draw from his. Social Security off survivor benefits, is this true?

Hi,

Disabled adult child's (DAC) benefits can be paid based on a parent's Social Security record regardless of the child's current age, provided that the child became disabled prior to age 22. So, if you're unmarried and you believe that your impairment began before age 22 you may want to contact Social Security to apply.

Also, there are alternate insured status rules for Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits for people who are statutorily blind. Therefore, even if you don't have enough work credits to qualify for SSDI based on the normal insured status rules, you may want to check with Social Security to see if you have enough work credits to qualify for SSDI based on the statutory blindness rules (https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0300301150).

Best, Jerry
