Is It True That My Grandson Can't Receive Money From Both CPS And SSI?

I have just taken in two grandchildren 2 and 3. I am getting paid by CPS an amount each month. My grandson was on SSI monies until placed in our home. We have not received any SSI money. I was told we can not get CPS money and SSI money. Is this c true? What other monies might I be eligible for. The grandson has just had open-heart surgery and still has severe issues. Thank you. I have a second question. The mother is receiving all stimulus monies and filed children on her income tax and we have had children over a year. How do I get this changed over with the IRS and get the monies she received back. Our CPS has not helped in that area at all. Thx

Hi. I'm sorry, but my expertise is limited to Social Security benefits. The payments you refer to from CPS wouldn't have any adverse affect on Social Security benefits, but I don't know how it might affect Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments. SSI is designed to supplement other income that a person receives, so receipt of income from another source can potentially cause a person's SSI payments to be reduced or stopped. As I say, though, I don't know how the SSI rules would apply in your specific situation.

I don't have any special knowledge of the IRS program or the recent stimulus payments, so I don't know what you'd need to do to get that changed.

Best, Jerry
