I going to marry a fillipno woman with two kids next year I was told that both her and the two kids would be eligible to receive social security payments that are equal to half of my social security income
Hi,
Well, that might be true depending upon a number of factors. First, you would need to be drawing either Social Security retirement or disability benefits in order for your new wife and children to potentially be eligible for benefits on your record. And, unless the children are your biological children, neither they or your wife would likely qualify for benefits until you've been married for at least a year. Furthermore, there are other age, dependency and residence requirements involved for eligibility for child and spousal benefits. For more information, refer to Social Security's website: https://www.ssa.gov/planners/disability/dfamily.html.
Best, Jerry
