Hello,
I want to thank you publicly for all of your help, I was the person who contacted you a couple of weeks ago about my husband's social security check. and widow's benefit. The SS rep I had spoken to had mistakenly told me that I would only get what my husband would have made at full retirement age, not including the delayed retired credit amount. I spoke with this same rep yesterday and cited section 407.1 (you pointed that out) and he called me back this morning and stated I indeed am entitled to the full amount my husband was receiving at death, at age 70.
As you predicted, the first person I spoke with right after my husband's death was correct (she also sent me a matrix of the benefit max when I reach 66-,several hundred dollars more monthly) and this fellow was incorrect.
What you repeat in the book several times rings true - some of these reps are not in full understanding themselves and this person had to apologize, was going to correct the problem. I will be watching for correct amount on my first that in the fall. I did not have to appeal since he will make the correction. Hopefully he learned something for the many others who apply as widows or widowers and will give the correct info.
Thanks for your service to all of us, I am so grateful!
Pam
Hi Pam,
You're welcome. I'm glad that we were able to help you. It's refreshing to hear that the Social Security representative who gave you the incorrect information acknowledged his error and apologized to you.
Best, Jerry
