Am I Eligible For A Spousal Benefit?

Hi, I am 62 years old and my husband will be 70 in December. He is going to apply for Social Security benefits now. I plan to retire next year after I turn 63 in April, am I eligible for spousal benefit? We have purchased your software and tried a couple scenarios - one with me retiring at full retirement age in 2021 and one at 63. Neither scenario comes up with any spousal benefit numbers, is that possible or am I missing something? Please help!
Thanks!

Hi,

Since you were born after January 1 1954, whenever you file for spousal benefits you will be deemed to also be filing for retirement benefits on your own record (https://www.ssa.gov/planners/retire/deemedfaq.html), and you will essentially only be eligible for the higher of those 2 benefit rates. If your own full retirement age rate (PIA) is more than 50% of your husband's PIA, you won't be eligible for any spousal benefits.

I answer questions from the public that are submitted to this site, but I don't have access to the user data that you entered into the software. If you have specific questions about the software or your results, please submit them via an online contact form in the help menu.

Best, Jerry
