My situation is very like that of a person whom you answered Jan. 25, 2017. I'm 70, divorced, still working full-time. I'm being permitted to recover ex-spousal benefits for Feb thru May of 2017, but I would like SS to pay longer retroactively. The website that you provided to establish misinformation (from SS) is no longer working. (I haven't checked yet whether the website you provided regarding filing an appeal still works.) Can you tell me the correct website address(es)? Has anything changed in re establishing misinformation or in re getting SS to provide back ex-spousal benefits? I spoke to SS years back, and they told me not to contact them again until I was retiring. As a result, as of now, I have foregone at least 2.5 years of receiving ex-spousal benefits. (My ex-spouse if younger than I but he turned 66 3 years ago.) Thank you!
Hi,
The websites you refer to haven't changed, but Social Security frequently shuts off access to their operations manual website for maintenance and updates. So, if you get an error message you should try again in a few hours. There is no source other than their operations manual that I am aware of for obtaining information on establishing an earlier deemed filing date based on misinformation given by Social Security. A link to the pertinent reference (GN 00204.008) is here: https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0200204008.
Best, Jerry
