I am divorced after 30 years of marriage. I have been receiving SSD since 1980. He is retired from USAF he getting reserve and federal pension. I am getting half his reserve pension and soon I will get federal. Will this effect my SSD? Can I still get Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps and drug coverage. Will they reduce my Medicare due to the pensions I receive?
Hi,
No, nothing that you receive from your husband's pension programs would affect your Social Security disability benefits (SSDI). However, if you also receive SSI (Supplemental Security Income) those payments could be reduced or stopped if your income increases.
Medicare isn't needs based, so your coverage wouldn't be affected by any changes in your income level. The same is true for Medicare drug coverage (Part D). However, both Medicaid and food stamps are needs based benefits, so they could be affected by any increase in your income.
Best, Jerry
