How Often Do I Need To Report My Earnings?

Hi Larry, could you please inform me as to whether I need to report my earnings every payday or month? I have already set up a automatic deposit into my bank account when money is supposed to be paid. after I did my taxes, i saw that the SS office has already received my yearly tax info for 2017
I make 12.00 an hour now but i don't know if i will be getting a raise any time this year and if i do, do i need to report that also?
Thank you for your help.

Hi,

Your reporting responsibilities depend on whether or not you are receiving Social Security benefits, your age, and the type of benefits you receive. If you are full retirement age (FRA) or older, there's likely no reason that you would need to report your earnings to Social Security unless you are receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI). If you're receiving Social Security retirement or survivor benefits and you're under FRA, then you would probably only need to report your earnings to Social Security on an annual basis, and only if you will earn more than $17,040 this year.

If you are receiving Social Security disability benefits (SSDI) or SSI, then you would need to report any changes in your earnings to Social Security as soon as possible. But as long as they are aware that you are working and how much you are earning, they probably wouldn't need you to report your earnings every pay day or even every month unless they specifically request you to do so.

If you have any questions about your reporting responsibilities, the best thing to do is check with Social Security.

Best, Jerry
