Can My Wife And Stepdaughter Get Benefits On My Record?

I am a 100 % total permanent Veteran also received Disability my wife and I want to live in Colombia my wife is Colombian she and my stepdaughter is entitled to my VA and SSI we don't want a green cards for both but is she and her daughter entitled to my SSI benefits and VA they need SSI cards? How?

Hi,

My expertise is limited to Social Security benefits only, so I can't answer questions about VA benefits. When you refer to SSI, I assume you mean that you're drawing Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits and not Supplemental Security Income. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a needs based benefit administered by Social Security, and no SSI benefits can be paid to anyone living outside of the U.S.

If your wife and daughter are not U.S. citizens and they live in Colombia, they could not be paid auxiliary (i.e. spousal and child) benefits based on your SSDI record unless they've resided in the U.S. for at least five years while in a family relationship with you (https://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10137.pdf).

Best, Jerry
