Can I Receive Benefits For My Eight Year Old Twins If I'm On Disability Insurance?

Am I allowed to receive social security for my eight year old twins if I am on disability insurance??

Hi. Maybe, but it depends on your Social Security disability (SSDI) benefit rate. Children who are either under age 18, age 18 to 19 and attending high school, or older children who became disabled prior to age 22, can potentially qualify for child benefits on the record of a parent who is receiving either Social Security retirement or SSDI benefits.
But, Social Security uses a special formula for determining the family maximum benefit (FMB) amount that can be paid on the record of a worker who's receiving SSDI benefits. As a result of that formula, your children's child benefit rates could be reduced to zero depending on your SSDI rate. Basically, the lower your SSDI benefit rate is, the more likely it is that your children's benefit rates would be adversely affected by the FMB.

I would need much more information to be able to determine whether or not your children could be paid any benefits from your record, so I would suggest that you contact Social Security to see about filing a claim on your children's behalf.

Best, Jerry
