So I Would Wait With No Money For 5 Months?

So I would still wait with no money for 5 months

Hi. We receive a lot of questions, so I don't know whether or not your question is a follow up to a response to a previous question. In any case, I can't give you any advice if I don't know what your circumstances are.

Since you mention 5 months, though, I assume you're referring to the waiting period for Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits. That is part of the Social Security law, so it's true that people who qualify for SSDI benefits can't be paid benefits for the first 5 full calendar months in which they're disabled. People who are blind, disabled or at least age 65 and who don't have much if any means of self-support may be able to qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) (https://www.ssa.gov/ssi/).

Best, Jerry
