Is Social Security Giving My Sister The Correct Information?

Please Read and help me if you can.

My sister receives SSDI as a result of a single vehicle accident. (weather played a part). The accident had nothing to do with her receiving SSDI. It was medical malpractice lawsuit. She resides in PA. My sister is waiting for Social Security to let her know what she can do with her settlement check. Because they told her that she can't do anything with it she has to wait until her survivor benefits start. She was told her SSD will be $370.00 a month and her Survivor Benefits a month will be $913.00 a month. My question is SS giving her correct information? I know it doesn't effect her SSDI, but will the survivor benefits.

Thank you
A very concerned sister

Hi. It doesn't sound like it, at least based on your description. Receipt of a settlement based on a malpractice lawsuit wouldn't affect any type of Social Security benefit. It sounds like your sister may want to re-contact Social Security and ask them for further clarification.

Best, Jerry
