Is Social Security Required To Refund The Excess Medicare Premiums They Withheld?

for 2022 SS withheld Medicare B & D premiums based on an IRMAA of $380,000. My spouse retired in 2021 and for 2022 our income was less than $50,000. I completed the required form and for 2023 they have reduced the premium to the correct amount of $164.00. However their letter stated I was owed only $337.40 through December 2022, which I believe should be about $5304.00 ($616.00 x 12 = $7392.00 S/B $174.10 x 12 =$2089.20. Are they required to refund this money an dhow to I go about requesting it. It says I can file an appeal? Thank you for the help!

How Do We Make Sure That Medicare Premiums Aren't Deducted From My Wife's Social Security Benefits?

hi Larry - I'm 62-years old and working a regular (W-2) job - my wife turns 65 in July 2023 - she is working less than 15-hours/week as a 1099 subcontractor - we have group insurance through my employer - my wife began drawing Social Security benefits late last year - we prefer to stay on my Insurance and not-pay for unneeded Medicare coverage - does she have to sign-up for Medicare during the 3-months before/after July, or will she "automatically" be signed-up since she is already receiving SS benefits?

Do I Apply For Medicare Under My Late Husband's Record Or My Own Record?

I began collecting SS survivor benefits on my husband’s record when I turned 60 in 2018.
I had already resigned/retired from my Job in early 2018 to provide FT care to my mom. I plan on filing for SS on my record, much beyond FRA , probably at age 70.
I am thrilled to be eligible for Medicare later this year as my premiums are too high. . Do I apply for Medicare under my late husband’s record on which I am collecting, or my record? I don’t want to inadvertently claim Ss on my record, waiting until 70.
What do you think of this plan?

Is There Any Way I Can Reduce The Part B Premium Penalty I'm Paying?

I pay a penalty for not initially signing up for Plan B every month of close to 200.00 a month. Anyway to relieve or stop the penalty without losing Plan B?

Hi. Probably not, assuming that you enrolled in Part B after reaching age 65. If you enrolled in Part B prior to age 65 based on a disability, you'd get a new initial enrollment period (IEP) at age 65. That would allow you to re-enroll at age 65 without the late enrollment penalty.

Does My Husband Qualify For Free Part A Of Medicare Through My Work Credits?

My husband does not have enough work credits to qualify for Medicare Part A and turns 65 in April. I do, but do not turn 65 until 2030. Does he qualify for free Part A through my work credits?

Hi. Not right away, at least unless you're drawing Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits. In order for your spouse to qualify for premium free Part A of Medicare based on your Social Security contributions, you must be at least age 62 or be drawing SSDI benefits.

Will I Be Reimbursed For The Medicare Premiums That I Paid Twice?

My advantage plan charged Dec. and Jan premiums for Medicare B which I paid only to now find out it is deducted from my benefits?? Will they reimburse me.?

Hi. Yes. Duplicate Medicare premiums that are withheld from Social Security benefits should be refunded automatically. You may need to be patient, though, because it takes some time for the information to be exchanged between the Medicare Advantage insurance companies and Social Security.
