Widow's Benefits

Could I Have Been Drawing Social Security From My Deceased Husband's Record?

My husband died in 1989, he was 50 years old, and I was 47years old. We were married 28 years. I remarried in 1991 and divorced in 1993. In 1995 I had a near fatal automobile accident and suffered multiple serious injuries and had to be resuscitated at the scene of the accident. I was unable to work for two years. I drew two years of temporary social security. I was 53 years old when I had the accident. I returned to work when I was 55 years old. I retired I retired when I was 65 in 2007. I was retired one year and I returned to work in 2008, I was 66 years old.

What Amount Would I Receive As A Widow At Age 60?

Dear Larry (and Jerry, Mike, John, Alex and Issac),
I have a question about widow's benefits. My spouse was on disability when she died. Their Social Security Disability benefit was approximately $930.00 per month, and they died in 2015 at the age of 51. I know that I can claim widow's benefits as early as age 60 (which will be in seven and half years). My questions are as follows:
What amount would I receive as a widow when I am 60?
Does claiming the widow's benefit affect the amount or timing of my Social Security benefit?

How Will My Wife's Widow's Rate Be Calculated?

I am 60 and receiving social security disability of $2200. My wife makes $10,000 a year. She is 60, if she claims early her benefit will be about $600 dollars. If she claims reduced spousal benefits it will be approximately $750. My question is when I die , assuming after age 66 will she receive my benefits of $2200, or will they be reduced because she claimed early benefits. Is there a better stategy. Thank you.

Can I Draw Widow's Benefits And Keep Working?

Hi Larry, I am a 61 year old widow , my husband passed away July 2014 . He had not filed for any Social Security Disability, there was not time. Mike was four years older than myself and he actually retired at age 48.I am having financially a difficult time. Can I draw any amount of widows benefit and still work to keep my health insurance? Last year I made just under $40,000. It is just hard to make it on 1 salary in our household.I do not plan to remarry, and I have paid things off and lowered my bills as much as I can. Help

How Much Will I Get If I File For Widow's Benefits At Age 64?

My husband was 61& never collected any ss. I will be 64 in August, & that's when I want to start taking widows benefits. Will I qualify for the reduced benefit at 90% or will I qualify for the amount he would've collected at full retirement age? I'm unsure of the rules. Also I want to get your. software but I don't have my husbands ss records. Will I still be able to use your software & get an accurate benefit amount?

Hi,

I'm sorry for your loss.

Can I Take Reduced Widow's Benefits Now And Still Get A Full Widow's Benefit In The Future?

Hi,

I have a basic question that I was unable to receive a straight answer to from the SS representative whom I spoke with.

My husband, 9yrs 4 mo older than me, died in January, 2017. He worked until 70 and was receiving full SS benefits from about 70 to presnt. I am working full time. I was told that I can only make a certain amount of money (toward $17,00) and then there is a rated system for every couple of dollars I make and this reduces the benefit to over $400 less a month than I would recieve if I was at my full retirement of 66 years old.

Will I Lose My Veteran's Benefits If I File For Social Security Widow's Benefits?

Hi Mr Larry
I'm the surviving spouse of a Retired Military Veteran. I am drawing both DIC Benefits & DFAS-SSIA Benefits. I was told, at the time of my husband's death in 2011, that I could begin drawing from his SS benefits when I reached age 60. I will be 60 in April of this yr (2017). My question is... Will I lose my surviving spouse military benefits (either all OR partial) when I start drawing benefits from my late husband's SS?
Thank I for your help.

Shouldn't I Be Eligible For Widow's Benefits?

My husband died in 2015 at the age of 64. He had been receiving disability social security. I had retired in 2010. Today,Feb 24, 2017, I am 62 but will be 63 in April. Social Security said I could not draw his social security because my benefit was more than what he was drawing. I did not have all my quarters in and had to go back to work part-time. Now, I do have my quarters in, BUT was told it wouldn't even pay $100 per month. It seems unfair for the widows that we cannot draw our spouses ---even a small portion-- from our spouse.
