My new bank mistakenly deducted MY Medicare quarterly payments from my mothers checking account (my name is secondary name on her account) instead of from my checking account.
Meanwhile I sent in two Medicare payments by written check because I realized no money was automatically being deducted from my account. Now I’ve overpaid by more than $900!!!
I’ve called and written letters to no avail.
What do I do?
Jean
Hi Jean. In my experience, overpayments of Medicare premiums are normally automatically refunded within 60-90 days. I don't know if that time frame can still be relied on, though. It seems like everything Social Security does takes longer since the pandemic started.
I don't know of any way to speed up getting your refund. You can try to continue calling Social Security or you could write to the offices of your U.S. congressional representative or one of your U.S. senators, but I don't know if that will speed up the process.
As for your future premiums, it sounds like you'll want to correct your bank account information. Here is information from Medicare's website: https://www.medicare.gov/sites/default/files/2018-07/medicare_easy_pay_l....
