If we were to marry When I lose my SSI and if So What Would I be entitled to And Would my two granddaughters that I have been raising be able to draw off of him do they have to be adopted we were married for over 10 years before divorcing I have Full custody of both granddaughters I guess what I’m asking say I would marry him what would I gain and what weird I lose and where do they come in thank you.
Hi. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is needs based, and if you marry and live with your spouse then your spouse's income and resources count when determining whether or not you meet the hardship requirements for SSI benefits. So, whether or not your SSI would stop depends on your spouse's income and resources.
The only way that a grandchild can collect benefits from the record of a grandparent is if the child is adopted by the grandparent, or if both of the grandchild's natural parents are disabled or deceased (https://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home/handbook/handbook.03/handbook-0325.html).
You might be able to qualify for spousal benefits if you remarry, but only if you're either at least age 62 or if you have an eligible child in your care who qualifies for child benefits on your spouse's account (https://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home/handbook/handbook.03/handbook-0305.html).
There's not enough information in your question for me to be able to give you any specific advice, so I would suggest calling Social Security to discuss your options.
Best, Jerry
