Will Filing For Spousal Benefits Eliminate My Ability To Contribute To An HSA?

Will filing for spousal benefits eliminate my ability to contribute to an HSA at my place of employment?

Thank you and your team for the excellent information!

Hi,

If you file for any type of Social Security benefits and you are at least age 65, you will be automatically enrolled in Part A of Medicare. You can't decline the Part A coverage and still be eligible for monthly benefits at age 65 or older. And, since you can't contribute to an HSA if you have Medicare coverage, you couldn't continue contributing to an HSA once your Part A Medicare coverage begins.

Best, Jerry
