I am 62 years of age , and collecting widows pension. I am hoping to retire next year when im 63. I only collect six months out of the year. I will only get 45% of the salary I bring home now. Will I start collecting every month from SS instead of six months out the year?
Hi,
The answer to your question depends on how much you earn next year. In 2020, you can earn up to $18,240 and still be paid all of your Social Security benefits throughout the year. If you earn more than that amount, Social Security will need to withhold $1 of your benefits for each $2 that you earn in excess of the limit.
Whether or not you'll be able to draw all of your benefits in the years after 2020 will depend on whether or not your earnings exceed the Social Security earnings test exempt amount for that year. However, once you reach your full retirement age (FRA) you'll be able to receive all of your benefits regardless of how much you earn.
Best, Jerry
