Will My Social Security Benefits Be Affected If I Receive A Survivor Pension?

Thank you for this service -
My husband has earned soc. security as well as been a community college teacher subject to windfall. I have worked for 40 years and have earned SS benefits. He has chosen the pension option which provides that the pension comes to me when he passes.
Is my Soc.Security benefit amount mpacted when that happens or is it immune other than from SS Taxes?
thank you very much for your help.

Hi,

Your Social Security benefits would not be affected if you receive a survivor pension from your husband's teacher pension plan. Both the WEP (https://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10045.pdf) and GPO (https://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10007.pdf) provisions only affect benefits for people receiving pensions based on their own work that was exempt from Social Security taxes.

Best, Jerry
