My ex husband has to give me 1/2 his pension earned from a police officer job that he paid no social security on. It was in our MSA. I receive it every month. They paid into a private pension plan while working. He is retired from there and that's why I get it now.
My question is will it affect my social security when I reach retirement age or am I okay?
Hi. I assume you are referring to your own Social Security retirement benefits that are based on your own Social Security covered earnings. If so, the answer to your question is no. The only non-covered pensions that can cause a person's Social Security retirement benefit rate to be reduced are pensions that are based on the person's OWN earnings.
