Is It Possible That I'll Get My Wife's Benefits?

Hi Larry I applied for my wife social security. We are still married and she died. Social security has made a decision. Is it possible that I will get her benefits

Hi. I'm sorry for your loss. You won't get your wife's actual benefits, but you may be eligible for widower benefits. There are a number of eligibility requirements that need to be met in order to qualify for widower benefits, though, and there's not enough information in your question for me to know if you'll qualify for widower benefits. The eligibility requirements for widower benefits are . . . Read More

Why Haven't I Received My Social Security Yet?

today is the 3rd.week of this month. i still have not received mf social security my date of birth 1/18/46. is this another jab by our country lies to promote socialism

Hi. There isn't enough information in your question for me to even know when your monthly benefits should be paid (https://faq.ssa.gov/en-us/Topic/article/KA-01957). If you are normally paid earlier in the month, though, then you should probably call Social Security to find out the status of your payment.

Now What?

My sis benefits were cancelled because they said I made too much money? I am paralyzed and in a wheelchair..."I CANNOT WORK.....the money was child support which shouldn't be considered income? Now what?

Hi. I assume that your sister was receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI), which is a needs based benefit administered by Social Security. SSI's rules regarding support are complex, and there's not enough information in your question for me to be able to give you any specific advice. But, if you believe that Social Security has made a mistake, your . . . Read More

Am I Entitled To Claim Widow's Benefits At Age 60 Based On A Same-Sex Marriage?

Does the section about same-sex marriages about halfway down this page (https://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home/handbook/handbook.04/handbook-0406.html) affect widower's benefits from a same sex marriage if the spouse died before Canadian marriages were recognized in the US?
My spouse was on social security disability that started in 1992. We married in Canada in 2005. She died in 2015. Her benefit in 2015 was $975 a month. I have not remarried. We did not file as married in Virginia, or for Federal tax . . . Read More

Does The Family Maximum Benefit Change When Someone On SSDI Reaches Full Retirement Age?

Family Maximum Formula for SSDI vs. Retirement Benefits

Per the Social Security website, "there is a special formula for computing the maximum benefits payable to the family of a disabled worker" but a different formula for computing the family maximum for retirement and survivor benefits. My question pertains to whether the family maximum formula used would change when someone who has been claiming SSDI reaches full retirement age and their benefits convert to retirement.

A few years ago I filed for and was awarded SSDI. I have a DAC who then filed to claim on my . . . Read More
