Why Was My Payment Early This Month?
My SS was deposited in my checking acct Feb. 17th this year. I get it on the 4th Wed. of the month since my birthday is the 23. Why was it a week early this month?
Hi. I'm sorry, but I would need access to your Social Security records to be able to answer your question. February 17th wasn't a normal payment date for Social Security benefits, so you'll need to call Social Security to find out if they can provide an explanation.
Best, Jerry

Can I Collect Ex-Spousal Benefits When I Reach Age 62?
I was born in 1961 and my Ex-spouse was born in 1970. We were married for 12 years. I have not remarried. Can I collect Ex-spousal benefits when I hit early retirement (62) or when/if I receive SSDI, or do I have to wait until he reaches retirement age (62 or FRA)? If I cannot collect Ex-spousal benefits until he reaches retirement age, can I collect my own and then collect his later?
Hi. As long as your ex-spouse is still living, you couldn't qualify for divorced spousal benefits until your ex either reaches age 62 or he starts drawing Social Security . . . Read More

How Would Moving To Sweden Affect The Calculation Of My U.S. Social Security Retirement Benefit?
I am a US citizen who has paid US social security taxes for 25 years. I lived in Sweden for 15 years during which time I had no US taxable income and paid taxes to Sweden on my Swedish taxable income. I currently live in the US and only have US taxable income. I plan to wait 8 years and then apply for US social security retirement benefits at age 70. If I move to Sweden before I apply for US social security retirement benefits, how would the calculation of my benefit be affected. Also, how would the future calculation of my surviving spouse's (also US citizen, married > 30 . . . Read More

Can My Wife Take Benefits From My Social Security At Age 62 If I'm Not Collecting My Social Security?
Can my wife take benefits from my social security at 62 if I am not collecting my social security?
Hi. The only way that your wife could be paid benefits for months that you aren't collecting your benefits is if a) you've applied for and been approved for Social Security retirement or disability benefits, and b) your benefits are suspended for reasons other than your work and earnings. For example, the spouse of a worker who is entitled to Social Security benefits but whose benefits are suspended because they are in prison could potentially be paid spousal . . . Read More

I was born in 1959. My husband was born in 1963. If I start taking my Social Security of $950 now will I be able to get spousal benefits when my husband turns 70. His income is much higher than mine and will be eligible for about $3500 when he turns 70.
Hi. Based on the amounts stated in your question you'd likely qualify for at least some spousal benefits when your husband starts drawing his benefits, but the amount of your spousal benefit might be substantially less than you think.
Once you file for your own Social Security retirement benefits, . . . Read More

What Will My Widow's Benefit Be If I File At Age 60?
my spouse died before reaching 62 at 62 would have received 1095 monthly benefit. i have not reached 60, what will be my monthly amount at 60 for spousal benefit?
Hi. I'm sorry for your loss. If a widow claims benefits at age 60, their benefit rate is calculated at 71.5% of their deceased spouse's primary insurance amount (PIA). A person's PIA is equal to their Social Security retirement benefit rate if they start drawing their benefits at full retirement age (FRA).
There isn't enough information in your question for me to be able to give you any . . . Read More

Can We Suspend My Wife's Child In Care Benefits?
I filed for retirement benefits in August 2021 at 70. We have 2 children (11 and 14) who are eligible for benefits on my record and my wife is not yet retirement age, so the children are recieving the children's benefit and my wife is receiving the child-in-care benefit. The children's benefits and child-in-care benefit are of course reduced because of the family maximum. I am still working so we are in the 22% tax bracket now and expect to be in the 22% or 12% bracket after I stop working. I am wondering if we made a mistake by taking the child-in-care benefit due to the fact . . . Read More
