Is There Any Way To Ask Social Security How They Calculated My And My Daughter's Benefit Rates?

My adult disabled daughter just got approved for DAC benefits based off my husband’s work record. I also just got approved for CIC (child in care) benefits based off my husbands’ work record. I am 61 and do not currently collect any other SS benefits.

Is there a way to ask SS how they calculated the benefits amounts for my daughter and myself?

I know there are a lot of pieces that go into the calculation such as my husband’s PIA, the family maximum, and my daughter already receiving $450 a month in SSDI benefits based on her own work record which would mean the . . . Read More

Is My Husband's Benefit Estimate On Social Security's Website Accurate If No Earnings Are Shown For 2021?

Hi Larry. While using the calculator on SSA.gov, it shows my husbands estimated full retirement amount. But I see where it is saying there are no recorded wages for 2021, though he worked the entire month. All the prior years amounts are accurate.
It does have an amount they are using, (which seems accurate) for future earnings. My question, is the estimated full retirement amount accurate or is it not because it’s not showing any earnings for 2021. Thanks so much..

Will My Mother Receive A Retro Payment For December?

My wife submitted her social security application on Nov 22nd and it was approved on January 25th. Her January payment will be issued on Feb 9th. Will she receive a retro payment for December?

Hi. I can't answer that without knowing your mother's birthdate, the type of benefit she applied for (e.g. retirement, survivor), and the month she chose to start her benefits, . If your mother was eligible for benefits for December and if she asked to start her benefits effective with that month, then yes she should receive a payment for December. But, if she asked . . . If I'm Collecting SSDI Benefits At Age 62 Will I Get One Benefit Payment Or Two?

I am receiving $611.00 a month SSDI turning 62 later this year have 40 or more credits SS will I get one or two benefits checks per month

Hi. You'll only get one payment. Nothing will change as a result of your turning age 62. However, when you reach your full retirement age (FRA), then your Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits will automatically convert to regular Social Security retirement benefits at the same rate.

No one can be paid both SSDI benefits and Social Security retirement benefits at the same time. Basically, drawing SSDI . . . Read More

How Do I Get A Refund Of The Double CMS Payments That Have Been Taken Out Of My Checking Account?

Double CMS payments have been taken out for several years from my checking account autopay as far back as I could go 5/20 to 1/22. How do I get this money back ?

Hi. I can't give you a definite answer since the action needed would depend on the cause of the duplicate withholding. If duplicate Medicare premiums have been withheld from your checking account for that length of time, then it must mean that either your Social Security or Medicare records are messed up. So, I would suggest calling Social Security (800-772-1213) and/or Medicare (800-633-4227) to . . . Read More

Can i take my own retirement now and switch to spousal benefits when my husband retires? I know my spousal benefit will be higher than my own benefit.

Thank you very much

Hi. Not exactly. You can't switch from collecting your own benefits to drawing spousal benefits instead. However, you could start collecting your own benefits at full retirement age (FRA . . . Read More

Can I Take Spousal Benefits On My Wife's SS And Then Switch To My Own Benefits At Age 70?

Title: Taking spousal benefits on wife's SS, then switching to my own benefits at 79.

I've bought your financial planning software but have a key SS benefit question that I seem to be getting different answers on. I hit FRA in a few months and expect to retire sometime in 2022 and begin taking my SS benefits when i am 70. My wife just hit her FRA and wants to continue in her part time job for the foreseeable future. My wife would like to begin taking her SS benefits now, since her current income from her part time job will not impact her SS. Her full benefit will be . . . Read More

Who Signs Form 795?

Who signs form 795

Hi. As it's title implies, form SSA-795 (https://www.ssa.gov/forms/ssa-795.pdf) a statement of a claimant for benefits or another person. The form is used for many different purposes, and the person who needs to sign the form depends on why the form is needed. Basically, though, it's just a blank form that can be used by anyone who needs to submit a statement to Social Security.

If you've been sent a form SSA-795 by Social Security and if you are unsure of what needs to be done . . . Read More
