Do I Get Both Disability And SS?

Hello: I have been on disability since 2018.

I turned 62 on July 5th.

DO I get both disability and SS?

Do I need to do anything to do this?

Hi. No. Assuming that what you currently receive are Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits, then you can't be paid both those benefits and regular Social Security retirement benefits at the same time. You could choose to start collecting Social Security retirement benefits now instead of SSDI, but then your benefit rate would be reduced for age. SSDI benefits are calculated at 100% of a person . . . Read More

Was I Supposed To Put In Another Claim To Receive Higher Benefits At Age 70?

Aloha, Larry! I started receiving my SS at age 67, I am now 70. Was I supposed to put in another claim to receive higher benefits for age 70? Mine are very low, especially after they take out for Medicare. Thanks. Just checking to see if I can bump them up!

Hi. Your benefit amount doesn't increase when you reach age 70 unless you voluntarily suspended your benefits prior to then. Social Security retirement benefits increase by 2/3rds of 1% for every month that you voluntarily suspend your benefits between your full retirement age (FRA) and age 70. But, if . . . Read More

Hi. You don't mention your age or what type of benefits you receive, so I can't really give you a good answer. Assuming you receive Social Security benefits, though, hiding your income by reporting it under your husband's tax . . . Read More

When Does My Benefit Change To Regular Social Security?

I'm on ssid...I'm 61 when does it turn over to regular as or does it

Hi. I assume that what you're collecting is Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits, in which case your benefits will convert to regular Social Security retirement benefits at the same rate when you reach your full retirement age (FRA). If you were born in 1960 or later, your FRA would be age 67.

However, if you're receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI), those benefits never convert to Social Security benefits. SSI is a needs based payment that is not funded by Social . . . Read More

How Much Would Each Year Of My Annual Salary Affect My Benefit Amount?

I am paying tax on $100,000 annual salary. How would each year affect my benefits on social security

Hi. That's impossible to even approximate without knowing your full earnings history. Social Security retirement benefits are based on an average of a person's highest 35 years of Social Security covered wage-indexed earnings, so the amount that your benefit rate would increase with a year of $100,000 earnings depends on how much you earned in your previous highest 35 years. Also, the indexing factors used to calculate retirement benefits are different for . . . Read More

Can My Adopted Daughter Draw Off Of Me And My Husband?

Can my adopted daughter dfaw off me and my husband's said

Hi. Possibly, but there isn't enough information in your question for me to be able to know. A child can draw benefits on an adoptive parent's account if the adopted parent is either deceased or drawing Social Security retirement or disability (SSDI) benefits, and if the child is either under age 18, age 18 to 19 and attending high school, or is disabled due to an impairment that began before age 22 (https://www.ssa.gov/ . . . Should I Start Drawing My Widow's Benefits At Age 60?

I’m a widow and wondering if I should start receiving my husbands benefits at 60?

Hi. It depends on whether or not you're insured for benefits on your own earnings record and if so how your relative benefit rates compare, and whether or not you're working and if so how much you are earning. Until the year you reach your full retirement age (FRA), Social Security would need to withhold $1 of your benefits for each $2 that your earnings exceed the annual earnings test exempt amount. The exempt amount in 2021 is $18,960.
