Can My Eleven Year Old Daughter Get Her Deceased Father's Benefits?
My eleven-year-old daughter is father has died and I was wondering can she get his Social Security what do I have to do to get it he died in Daytona Beach Florida
Hi. Your daughter can't get her father's actual Social Security benefits, but she could potentially qualify for survivor benefits assuming that her father worked and paid into Social Security long enough to be insured for survivor benefits. Furthermore, if your daughter is in your care and if you were married to her father, then you may also be able to qualify for survivor benefits. I would . . . Read More

Neither my husband nor myself have applied for benefits yet.
I am 62 yrs and 1 month DOB 5/27/1959.
My current SS Benefit would be $818.00 per month.
My benefit at FRA would be $1286.
My husband is 67 yrs and 6 months, DOB 12/28/1953.
His current benefit would be $2100 per month.
His Benefit at 70 yrs of age would be 2600 per month.
If I apply for my benefit now and continue to work until FRA and I earn approx.. $47k per year for the next 5 years until FRA AND my husband applies for restricted Spousal benefit now, so he can let his . . . Read More

Will My Years Of Railroad Retirement Payments Be Considered When Calculating My Social Security Benefit Amount?
Paid 17 years into Railroad Retirement from 1971 to 1987. Paid 29 years into Social Security from 1987 to 2016. Retired and started drawing Railroad Retirement at 63. Letting Social Security grow with delayed credits until 70 ( in about 2 years). My question is since social security takes the top 35 years of indexed earnings, will my years of railroad retirement payments be considered or will I have 6 years of zero earnings.
Thanks,
Jim
Hi Jim. No, Social Security won't use your Railroad (RR) earnings when calculating your Social Security (SS) . . . Read More

Am I Entitled To Any Of My Husband's SSI?
Been separated since 2002 my spouse receive SSI am I entitled for any of it
Hi. If by SSI you're referring to Supplemental Security Income, then the answer is no. Supplemental Security Income is needs based, and no auxiliary (e.g. spousal, child) or survivor benefits are payable from that program. But, if your husband is collecting Social Security retirement or disability benefits based on his own work record, then you could potentially be eligible for spousal benefits if you are at least age 62 or if you have a child in your care who is eligible for . . . Can My Wife Collect From Her Ex When He Dies?
Can my wife, who was previously married over ten years, collect SS from her x when he dies?
Hi. That would depend on when you and your wife got married. If it was before she turned age 60, then your wife couldn't qualify for survivor benefits on her former spouse's record for as long as your marriage is continuing. But, if you and your wife got married on or after the date your wife reached age 60 then she could potentially qualify for survivor benefits on her ex-spouse's account in the event of his death ( . . . Will My Social Security Payment Go Up When I Reach Full Retirement Age?
The division where I worked was sold in 2013 to a private equity group. We were declared bankrupt in 2015 - all employees were laid off. I started Social Security early before my full retirement age - while still having a part time job. When I do reach my full retirement age will my Social Security payment go up?
Hi. Your benefit rate won't go up as a result of reaching full retirement age (FRA) unless some of your benefits have been withheld due to Social Security's earnings test. If a person starts drawing Social Security retirement benefits prior to FRA . . . Read More

Is It True That I Can Invest In Cryptocurrency Without Risking My SSDI?
I'm 32 years old and have been on ssdi since my mid 20s. I've never worked a day in my life. I'm not able to work because I have epilepsy and $800 a month is very hard to live on. I've had epilepsy since I was in 7th grade. I want to make more money, but I don't want to jeopardize losing my SSDI. There's no way I could afford the hospital bills and my medications. Is it true that I can invest or buy cryptocurrency without risking my ssdi? Thanks alot for your time and any input is much appreciated.

Will I Receive The Full Amount That My Ex-Spouse Was Getting?
I started collecting my social security benefits at age 62. I was divorced and collected off my earning credits. My ex spouse just died, we had been married 18 years, and I’m trying to figure out how much more I will collect every month. Will I receive the full amount he was getting?
Hi. The exact amount that you could potentially be paid as a surviving divorced spouse depends on several different factors, such as your current age, whether or not your ex was drawing his benefits, and your ex's age at the time of his death. You couldn't be paid both your . . . Read More

How Will My Spousal Benefit Be Affected When My Husband Starts Collecting His Benefits At Age 66?
I am a wife collecting ($1500) 50% of my husband's Social Security. How is my benefit affected next year when my husband starts collecting his at 66? I am 68. Thank You
Hi. Unless you're receiving divorced spousal benefits, your husband would have to be entitled to his benefits in order for you to be able to collect benefits as his spouse. About the only way that you could be receiving benefits on a current spouse's account who isn't drawing their own benefits is if their benefits are suspended for some reason (e.g. incarceration, or they filed for and . . .
