Will Social Security Combine My Wife's And My Family Maximum Benefit Amounts?
I am a subscriber to your software, and I am trying to understand how the combined family maximum impacts the results. My PIA is $3011, and my wife's is $1097. We have two adult disabled sons (disabled at birth). My wife (age 66) started to collect her retirement benefit when she turned 66. I am planning to begin my retirement benefit at age 70. As I understand it, when I begin the benefit, my wife and two disabled sons will be each be eligible for 50% of my PIA. However, when I add up my wife's portion (1505-1097=408 ) plus my sons portions (1505 each) plus my PIA (408+1505+ . . . Read More

Should I Expect A Refund From Medicare?
I directly paid my three month premium to Medicare in October 2020 which included the January 2021 premium. During open enrollment I elected an Advantage Plan with the buy back option. My prover paid the January 2021 premium in addition to me paying it. Should I expect a refund from Medicare?
Hi,
Social Security automatically refunds duplicate Medicare premium payments when they're withheld from a person's Social Security benefits, but I don't have any experience with Medicare Advantage plans and or their buy back process. If you don't receive a . . . Read More

Where Can I Fill Out An Application For My Wife's Death Benefits?
Larry, looking for application to fill out for my wife's death benefits.
Hi,
I'm sorry for your loss.
Social Security's website claims that they are constantly expanding their online services, but as of now it isn't possible to file for survivor benefits online. You'll need to call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 to initiate the application process.
Best, Jerry

This questions is in regard to item# 14 on form SSA-1-BK. I worked for the same company for 32 years. The first year as an hourly employee, during which time I was under a pension plan. The last 30 + years as a salaried manager. All earnings in those 32 years were taxed, including SS. At retirement I began receiving pension payments of $62 per month. Would my answer be yes or no? Thank you.

Should I Take My Social Security Benefits Earlier Than Age 70?
Hi Larry. I am currently 68.5, financially comfortable, single, and without a significant longevity gene. I have been planning to take Social Security at age 70. However, there’s quite a bit of chatter online about increasing the retirement age which would could reduce the payout at 70. Should I take Social Security earlier, perhaps at 69? Or is it likely safe to wait until 70? Thanks a bunch.
Hi,
If Congress raises the full retirement age (FRA) for Social Security benefits, it won't affect you. Your FRA was age 66, and that wouldn't change even if . . . Read More
