Will I Now Get My Husband's Full Amount And Still Be Able To Postpone My Own Benefits Until Age 70?
My husband took social security at 62. I took ½ my husband’s social security at 66 (my FRA) and postponed taking mine until 70 (we’re both 1953 kids). My husband just passed away. I assume I’m entitled to 100% of what he was getting and the payment for me will be cancelled and I’ll still postpone mine until 70. Since we’re both receiving benefits, social security won’t give me estimates over the phone. Can you tell me if this sounds right. I know the SSA will take months and I’m just trying to plan. Thank you so much for your input.

Is It Correct That My Husband's Check Received In September Can Be Kept?
My husband died sept 5. It is my understanding that the check we got on the second weds of Sept was for AUG. if so social security would not take those funds back. But we would not get a check in October for Sept. is that correct?
Hi,
I'm sorry for your loss.
You're correct that your husband's payment received in September is for the month of August, and therefore he was eligible for that payment. However, since the payment was issued after your husband's death, the bank may return it to the Treasury department. If that happens and if you're . . . Read More

Is It True That All My Earned SS Money After 70 Must Be Paid To Me At Year's End?
I have ur book gettin whats urs - I am FRA - I am still working parttime - is it true that all my earned ss money after 70 must be paid to me at yr end And put into my ss ck. and what ss rule is this. thanks.
Hi,
I'm not sure you mean. If you work and pay Social Security taxes on your earnings, your earnings can be used to calculate your Social Security retirement benefit rate regardless of your age at the time you produce the earnings. That could potentially increase your monthly benefit rate, but you wouldn't get a refund of your Social Security . . . Read More

How Would Deeming Work In Our Case?
My fiance is divorced and is 60 years old. I am currently 57 and my wife had died when I was 55 so I will be waiting at least 3 years before getting married so I can lock in my survivors benefits.
My fiance was married to her husband for 25 years and he is 54 years old If she filed for social security at age 62 can you explain how would deeming work? I understand from your book that with deeming if she filed for her social security she would also be deemed to collect her husbands social security benefits, but I don't understand how the deeming would work since his is not . . . Hi,
The only way that you could qualify for widow's benefits prior to age 60 is if you're disabled, or if you have an eligible child in your care. In order for your grandchild to qualify as an eligible child, he or she would need to qualify for child's . . . Read More

How Will My Earnings Affect My Railroad Spousal Benefits?
Hi Larry
I am collecting spousal railroad retirement benefits that started when I was age 60. I am currently 62, be 63 in October. My husband turned 66 in April, 2020 I am also a realtor which I started as a second career after I started collecting RR spousal retirement. Last year I had net income (after expenses) under 10,000. This year it seems I will have much higher income about 20,000 above the 18,000 limit. The real estate business is variable as it can be feast or famine. My question is when do I need to report this and how will this affect my current and future . . . Read More

Can I Receive Any Benefits From My Deceased Husband's Account?
I am 52 and receive disability income. I recently married my husband in June 2020 who has cancer and died who is 72 died in September 2020. Can I receive any benefits from him
Hi,
I'm sorry for your loss.
You normally must be married for at least 9 months in order to potentially qualify for widow's or disabled widow's benefits (DWB), so unless you meet an exception to that duration of marriage requirement then you likely couldn't qualify for monthly benefits from your husband's account ( . . . Is My Husband's Pension Too High For Me To Be Able To Receive Spousal Benefits?
Hi Larry,, Both my husband and myself just turned 62 this year and we both applied for ssi, haven't received our first check yet. Since this is all new to me, I started reading about spousal benefits. My husband's ssi is much higher than mine as my work record was off and on due to children. I filed all the necessary paperwork but was denied spousal benefits because "You have monthly income of about $3,000" and it is too high for any ssi pmt in my state (PA). Is this because of my husband's pension ($3,400) after taxes?

Can My Son's Disability Onset Date Be Changed So That He Can Receive Benefits Off My Account?
My son got on SSDI at 28 on his own work record for a major mental illness condition. He is now 41. He was disabled before age 22 but did not get SSDI until a social worker at a hospital assisted us in getting him benefits at 28 on his own work record. I recall her saying that if he did not have enough credits she could get child benefits. I was told at the time that he could not get child benefits because I was not receiving my SS yet. So he has been receiving off his own record for 13 years. 1 year ago he was incarcerated. and his SSDI was put on hold. Since that time I . . . Read More

What Would Happen If I'm Awarded Medicare Retroactively?
I have been applying for SSDI. However, due to late filing and appeals, I do not expect to get a detrmination from SSA untill at least 3 years from my initial filing date. Because of it I expect my MEDICARE benefits to be awarded to me retroactively. Between the retroactive award date for MEdicare and the actual award date (date when SSA determined that I received letter from SSA that I am eligeble for benefits) --I am planning to be covered by Obama care (ACA). What are the consequance of that? Would I be able to start Medicare without any penalties on the date of the actual . . . Read More
