Can My Wife Get Spousal Benefits On My Disability Account?

I am retired own disability. My wife of 39 years is about to reach 62. Can she file for spousal benefits?

Hi,

Yes, she can file for reduced spousal benefits on your disability account at age 62. However, she'll also be deemed to be applying for benefits on her own account, so she'll essentially get whichever benefit is higher. Also, there is a special formula for calculating the family maximum payable on disability accounts which may limit or even zero out her potential spousal benefits.

Best, Jerry
