Thank you so much

Hi,

Your figures can't be entirely accurate, because if your ex-husband's benefit rate at age 66 was $2500 his age 62 rate would only be around $1833.

In any case, assuming that your own retirement rate at age 62 would be $660, that means that your full retirement age rate or PIA (primary insurance amount) would be around $922. To calculate your potential unreduced excess divorced spousal rate, you would subtract your PIA from 50% of your ex's PIA. If we assume that your ex's PIA is $2500, that would result in an unreduced excess divorced spousal rate of $328 (i.e. $2500/2 - $922). That would in turn be reduced to roughly $218 if you started drawing at age 62.

Therefore, assuming that your figures are accurate it sounds like you could expect a combined monthly rate of around $878 if you file at age 62. However, before deciding when to apply you should strongly consider using our maximization software to explore and compare all of your various options so that you can choose the best possible filing strategy.

Best, Jerry
