I just sent in one question but realize I have another. My ex-husband is younger than I am. If I wait until I'm 66 to collect, but he is 65, would I get 1/2 of his unreduced benefit or 1/2 of what he would collect at 65?
Thank you.
Hi,
No, if you file for divorced spousal benefits at full retirement age (FRA), which is age 66 for those born in the years 1943-1954, you would be eligible for 50% of your ex-husband's full retirement age benefit amount (PIA), regardless of the fact that he is younger than full retirement age at the time you become eligible.
Best, Jerry
