I'm currently receiving workmans comp since 4/2/2020. I am also now receiving State Disability. And still undergoing medical treatment Therefore, at what point can I consider applying for SSDI. Since it has been 2 years 5 months that I got injured on my job and still under disability. I have many work restrictions, although it states that I can work with all these limitations being met and not work in same type of job. Although it is very difficult to try to get hired at any job with all these work restrictions stated by my Dr. I am 64 yrs and 4 months of age. Please reply

Hi. Anyone under their full retirement age (FRA) for Social Security benefits can apply for Social Security disability benefits. But, you must meet the requirements for SSDI (https://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home/handbook/handbook.05/handbook-0501.html) in order to be approved for benefits. And, if you're receiving either public disability benefits (PDB) based on earnings that weren't subject to Social Security taxes or worker's compensation benefits, your SSDI benefits could potentially be subject to full or partial offset.

If you're unable to work then you should at least consider applying for SSDI benefits now. It doesn't cost anything to apply, and the worst that could happen is your claim could be disallowed. Plus, there's a 12 month limit on payment of retroactive SSDI benefits. Therefore, delaying your application could result in a loss of benefits if your claim is approved.
