Will My Divorced Spousal Benefits Be Reduced?

Do I have to be at full retirement age of 66 to receive 50% of ex-husband (I was married 20 yrs) ssecurity retirement?
He started collecting early at 62 does that mean I don't get 50% cuz he collected early?
Please advise..... Thanks

Hi,

Yes, you must wait until full retirement age to be eligible for an unreduced divorced spousal benefit. And no, the reduction your ex took for starting at age 62 will not cause you to receive a lower divorced spousal benefit. However, if he dies before you, your potential surviving divorced spousal benefit would be lower since he started taking his early.

Best, Jerry
