I am a North Dakota news, living in Rochester, MN, because of severe Chrohns Disease. I am also a widow and am collecting my husbands' widows survivors benefits, since I turned 60. I am 62 now. Because of several chronic illnesses, I have been going through the SSA Disability Benefits process, since August, 2013. Today in my bank account I received a large amount of SSA benefits, in addition to my widows benefits. I assume, that after all thus time, medical issues, costs, and proof of several chronic conditions, that I was approved for disability benefits. What happens now? I have not received a letter yet, just my usual widows survival benefits on Jan 4, and a large some of social security benefits, over $14,000, on Jan 5. I need advice as to what happens now. I'made in MN until April hopefully, at which time I can return to North Dakota. I have been here since August 13th. Thank you.
Hi,
Based on your description of events, I assume that the large payment you received from Social Security is back pay that you have coming from your disability claim. If that's the case, you should receive an award letter in the mail explaining your payments. If you don't receive a letter, or if you don't want to wait, you will need to contact Social Security for an explanation. You can call them at 1-800-772-1213, or visit the office nearest you. To find your nearest office, you can use this locater: https://secure.ssa.gov/ICON/main.jsp.
