larry i receieve social security i had surgery in 2014 that is made me disable can i get disability benefites instead of social security
Hi,
The answer depends on your age. To qualify for disability benefits, you must become disabled at least 6 months prior to your full retirement age. And, disability benefits can only be paid retroactively for a maximum of 12 months. You must also meet the insured status requirements for disability benefits. So, if you are currently under age 67 and became disabled in 2014, then it's possible that you could qualify for higher benefits on the basis of a disability. For more information, refer to Social Security's website: https://www.ssa.gov/disability/.
