Hi Larry I can never find a question on Google concerning working on SSDI under SGA -NOT THE TICKET TO WORK( I know about that 9 month over SGA and extended 36 month ) What I'm trying to locate is - .Can you work below the SGA forever on SSDI? Plus do you need to report below SGA every month to SS ?
Someone told me their working under 10 hours a week and making under SGA monthly. The person says they dont report it as long as its under SGA .Is this true ?
Thank you Dee
Hi Dee. Yes, there's no limit on the amount of time that you can work at below substantial gainful activity (SGA) level and continue to draw Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits. You don't necessarily need to report your earnings to Social Security every month, but keep in mind that otherwise the only report of your earnings that Social Security receives is your W-2 form. They then have no way of knowing if you earned all of that money in one or two months, or if it was spread out over the whole year. So, lacking evidence of your monthly earnings amounts (e.g. pay slips), they could conclude that you earned above SGA level even if you didn't actually do so.
What I would suggest is that you report to Social Security that you're working, and then keep all of your pay slips so that you can prove your monthly earnings if asked to do so by Social Security.
