What Do I Need To Do Next?

I am 26 years old and have developed stage 4 cancer. I applied for SSDI and early retirement at the same time. My disability was approved in just 8 days, but my claim for early retirement just went away. I am getting the run around from every number I call. I did the application on the Social Security web site. "The web site" brought up the fact that I was over retirement age and asked if would I like to collect my early retirement amount until the disability was started which I answered yes. I don't understand what I need to do next .....

Do I Need To File An Application To Switch To Drawing My Own Benefits, And If So When Should I Apply?

When I turned full retirement age 66 (I was born in 1952), my wife filed for her benefit at age 64 1/2 and I filed a restricted application and took 1/2 of her full retirement age benefit.I will turn 70 in a little over 2 years but I'm wondering when I should apply for my benefit in order to take it as close to age 70 as possible. Do I need to apply for it 3 months prior to my 70th Birthday or can I just wait and it will automatically switch me over to my benefit?

How Do I Switch To Drawing My Own Benefits?

I currently receive a spousal benefit. I filed a restricted application successfully a couple of years ago. When I turn 70, I intend to switch over to a benefit based upon my own record. My question is how to do this? When I examine the social security website, I see no entry point which allows me to do this. When I view my account it will not give me any estimation of my benefit since I am already receiving a spousal benefit. If I begin a new application process will the social security system recognize this and prevent me from completing a new application online?

Can I File My Restricted Application For Spousal Benefits In Advance?

Larry, after many hours study and deciding what to do with social security, I did purchase Maximizing Social Security and it did confirm what I want to do. I want to clarify 2 minor points. I am 68 and earned far more than my wife and have not taken social security - plan to when I retire in 2 years. My wife with far less earnings turns 66 in December (31st) and will be taking her own social security. I will take her spousal benefit with a restricted application. This is a dumb question, but here it is.

When Should I File In Order To Get My Full 32% Of Delayed Credits In My First Check?

I turn 70 in mid December and would like to see and get the delayed credits of 32% benefit in my first check. When is the optimal time/date to file? Thanks! George

Hi George,

You'll get the full 32% rate increase from delayed retirement credits (DRC) if you claim your benefits effective with December (i.e. the month in which you reach age 70). Your first payment would then be scheduled for January, since Social Security pays benefits a month behind. You can file your application up to 4 months in advance, so you could apply now if you like.

How Do I File And Suspend My Benefits?

I am 66 and want to file and suspend until I’m 70. How do I do this? I went online to file but there is no where to suspend. I called the SSA twice but they have no idea what I’m talking about.

Hi,

If you don't want to draw benefits until age 70, I can't conceive of any reason why you'd want to apply now and suspend your benefits. It would be much simpler to simply wait until you're about to turn age 70 to apply, and you'll still accrue delayed retirement credits (DRC) if you wait to apply as opposed to filing now and suspending your benefits..

How Do I Complete Form SSA-795?

I am receiving survivor benefit based on my wife's record now and want to switch to receive the benefit based on my own record, which is higher, when I turn 70 in April 2021. I was told to fill out SSA 795 but not sure how. I have three questions.
1. What do I put on the first page of the form under the big blank space after I hereby certify that?
2. When should I file the form to start receiving the new benefit when I turn 70 in April 2021?
3. Where do I send the form and should it be submitted electronically or thru regular mail?
