If I Already Receive SSDI Benefits Can I Also Get Regular Social Security Benefits At Age 62?

I am 62 yrs old and I have been on SSD since 2000. I was wondering if I could get regular SS too. thank you so much and you have a bless day

Hi,

No, you can't collect both Social Security retirement benefits and Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits at the same time. Drawing SSDI benefits is essentially the same as receiving your full retirement age (FRA) Social Security benefit early because you're disabled.

Is It True That I Can Only Claim Either My Own Benefits Or Spousal Benefits?

I applied for SS benes 12/2019. I received a letter 12/24/2019 telling me to call a SS agent before 12/31. I called on 12/30 and got a message that the agent wouldn't be back until January 2020. There was no option to leave a message. I called SS and they didn't know anything about it, told me to make an appt. I got an appt. for 3/12/20. I went to the office twice, once waited 3 hrs, left starving, another on 02/19/20 and filled out Statement of Claimant or other Person. I waited 3 weeks for a letter I was to get, nothing.

Is It Possible For My Husband To File At FRA And For Me To Wait Until Age 70 To File For My Benefit?

Hello, I just want to clarify given the changes with SSA benefits. Both my husband and I will achieve FRA at 66 & 2mo's. We both were born in 1955. My question is with recent changes is it possible for my husband to file at his FRA and for me to wait until I am 70 to file for my benefit? If so, is there anything as a spouse I need to do to accomplish this?
Thank you in advance!
Catherine

Is It True That I Can Draw On My Ex's Account At Age 62 And Then Claim My Own Full Benefits At Full Retirement Age?

I am divorced, after 15years of marriage. I am being told that at 62 years of age, I can draw on my ex husbands social security until my full retirement age 0f 66 and 6 months, then at age 66 and 6 months start drawing on my benefits enabling me to draw the max amount I have earned. Is this information accurate?

Is It True That I Can Collect My Husband's Benefits At 62 Then Start My Full Benefit At A Later Date?

Larry, I was married for 18 years, divorced and then remarried for 6 months before my husband died. My first husband is 66 and retired; I am 55. I recently visited a social security office where I was told I can collect on my husband’s benefit at 62 then start my full benefit at a later date, however, what I’ve been reading online leads me to believe something different (since I was born after 1956). Can you please provide clarification on that? Thank you.

Can My Wife Begin Drawing Half Of My Social Security Amount When She Reaches FRA?

Larry,
? 4 U My wife and I are both on SSDI. I am 65 and she 61. She receives about $875 after deductions. I receive about $2500 after deductions. When she reaches FRA can she begin drawing half of my social security which would be a greater amount than she receives on her own social security. This extra amount would help us in retirement. Thanks in advance for your help.

When Should I File For Benefits?

Hi, I’ll be 62 this year, married , and are the primary earner , wife is 55 and will be a spousal earner and perhaps a survivor earner. I’ve read your responses to “taking early and investing” , in my case using the early age benefits as a delay to using retirement account withdrawals. In addition to any case to be made for continued growth in the retirement accounts, it also seems worthwhile to consider that the social security withdrawals starting at 62 have only 85% of the total taxes whereas the retirement income would be taxed at 100%.

Will My Wife Be Able To Switch From Her Own Benefits To A Spousal Benefit When I Start Drawing My Benefits?

My wife and I will turn 66 this year. I'm still working and plan on filing for social security at 70. My wife will file for ss this year at her fra. Her amount will be 400 a month. When I file at 70, will she be able to switch to a spousal benefit of one half of my fra?

If My Wife Dies Could I Take Survivor Benefits While Still Letting My Own Benefit Rate Grow Until Age 70?

My wife (age 46) is on SSDI. I'm 66. I'm planning to delay taking my own Social Security retirement benefits till I am 70. If my wife dies before that, could I take survivor benefits based on her SSDI while still letting my own retirement benefits gain 8% a year till age 70? Or, would I be "deemed" to have started my benefits earlier too if I file for survivor benefits earllier than 70?
Thanks so much.
